This week marks the start of one of the most important months of the year.

It marks the beginning of National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month. November is the time to raise awareness about a disease that, despite being the 4th leading cause of cancer death in the U.S, remains years behind other leading cancers in research, early detection methods and treatments. This month, we want to ensure that all of those affected by pancreatic cancer feel the support of thousands of people, standing up for them and speaking out against this terrible disease.

This past September, I mentioned in my email to you that it had been more than ten years since my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Ten years ago, there was no Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to advance research, support patients and create hope for patients and their families. There was no one raising awareness in their communities or on Capitol Hill. Today, our organization has helped change this. And you are a part of this. You are part of a community of people working to advance research, support patients, increase community awareness and advocate for a cure.

Pancreatic cancer is affecting more and more people each year. The only way to reverse this trend is to increase the number of people who know about pancreatic cancer and who join in the fight to end it. National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month is one of the most important times of the year to step forward and take action.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network has built a special website called, Know It. Fight It. End It. which includes a special "Raise Awareness and Take Action" section. In this section, we have developed 10 really simple yet highly effective actions you can take to make a real difference this November. Click now to get started. There is also an informative, interactive game to help people better understand pancreatic cancer and how they can know it, fight it, and end it.

Understanding this devastating disease is the first of many steps that must be taken towards raising awareness and eventually finding the cure.

Click here to visit the site and learn more about what you can do to raise awareness and raise the cure. Then forward the link to your friends and family so that they can do the same.

As the list of people facing pancreatic cancer grows, so does the list of those fighting on their behalf. Together, we have the opportunity to win the fight against pancreatic cancer. Visit the website today, and learn more about how you can get involved. Together, we really can know it, fight it, and end it.

Thanks for joining with me and taking action during one of the most significant months of the year.

Sincerely,

Julie Fleshman

Treatment options for pancreatic cancer depend on the stage of disease, but overall they include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, biological therapies, and complementary therapies. The pancreas is part of the digestive system. Digestive juices made by the pancreas flow down a tube in the centre of the pancreas called the pancreatic duct.
